Sociological Futures - Call for Book Proposals

Sociological Futures is the BSA’s research monograph series and has published a wealth of titles on significant topics of sociological enquiry such as climate change, food, social mobility and sociological theory. We are interested in more proposals at any time and invite all scholars to get in touch with their book ideas.

The series offers a means to reach a wider audience and acts as an established publishing outlet for sociologists at all career and publishing stages, from the well-established to emerging sociologists from all parts of the world. The series appeals to students, offering a selection of key texts on a focussed topic in one place as well as being attractive to scholars looking for longer form research on classic and emerging sociological themes. We accept proposals at any time: there is no deadline. Interested?  Find out more>

Book Reviewing

Sociology and Work, Employment and Society have vital and vibrant review sections in every issue of the journal.

Both journals publish a variety of types of reviews:

  • single book reviews (800 words)
  • joint book reviews (2 books on a related theme) (1,500-2,000 words)
  • review essays (substantial commentaries on a theme, frequently multiple books) (2,500-4,000 words)
  • review symposia (multiple reviewers for 1 book) (800-1,000 words)

Both journals are especially interested in review essays.  These types of reviews offer a more substantial publication for the writer and also a greater contribution to the academic record.

Note to publishers: Please do not send unsolicited review copies to the BSA office as we are unable to pass them on to reviewers or editors.
