Creating Solidarity as Early Career Researchers: Strategies for Making Life Liveable in the Academy
A BSA Pre-Conference Day
20 April 2020 (9:30–17:30)
Aston University, Birmingham, UK - FULL PROGRAMME
About the Event
Life as a junior scholar can be difficult and presents a number of challenges, both intellectual and practical. The BSA Pre-Conference Day brings together both the Postgraduate and Early Career Forums in sessions which speak to how junior scholars can approach and strategise in ways that let us feel excited, hopeful, and in control of our careers - and lives. With sessions on research funding, teaching, and navigating life in academia, the day brings a mixture of pragmatic and emotional support. There will be separate Forum-run sessions for scholars at different stages in their careers, as well as joint sessions which allow us to learn from, and support, one another. The Pre-Conference Day will be run with an ethos of practicing academic kindness and as such offers a safe, welcoming, and optimistic space for discussion and exploration.
