About

The MedSoc ECR group currently consists of the two postgraduate representatives on the BSA Medical Sociology Group Committee:

  • Laura Knight, PhD Student, School of Health and Human Sciences at the University of Essex
  • Tim Banks, PhD Student, Cardiff University

Aims & Objectives

The initial aims of the group are to organize relevant events and establish a network of early career researchers in the field providing an informal opportunity to meet, share interests and concerns. At the same time the scope of the group is open-ended and encourages and welcomes new ideas brought to it by the group members.

The main task of the ECR group is to organise the Early Career Researcher’s Workshop as part of the annual Medical Sociology Conference. The second MedSoc Early Career Group event was a workshop the day before the main MedSoc conference in September 2013. The programme for the event will followed the same format as last year’s very successful inaugural event, although with a different selection of expert speakers. It is hoped that the workshop provides a forum to discuss the needs of early career researchers in medical sociology and feed into the development of future gatherings, as well as becoming a regular fixture on the MedSoc annual conference programme.
