About

The group aims to provide a space to consider the issues below. We do this to consider the peculiarities of a Scottish context and/or to help foster research agendas, methodologies and ´knowledge transfer´ amongst researchers within these fields.

We envisage the group will address multiple social, political and cultural and economic questions including

  • Class identities and positions
  • Inequalities and social divisions
  • Urban and rural identities and politics
  • Contemporary migranthood and new communities
  • Forms of nationalism, Scottishness and identities
  • Sexualities, masculinities and femininities
  • Politics and activism
  • New media and technology
  • Crime

We also hope to engage our academic analyses with practitioners, policy makers and activists, and with this in mind, we hope that the BSA Scottish Studies group will be a forum to bring together a broad range of interests.  We are keen to:

  • bring together academics at all stages in their careers in a supportive and collegial environment to discuss and disseminate their work with each other and to a broader audience of activists, policy makers and practitioners;
  • establish links with other universities that have research centres which share common interests;
  • create an interactive, informal and supportive environment for the discussion of our ideas.

This list is not exhaustive and we are very keen to hear from you, about your interests and how these can be integrated.
