Why is BSA Membership Important to You?

As it is renewal time for BSA memberships, we thought we would remind you why BSA membership is useful to you.

Networking is a very important part of creating professional relationships and allowing you to meet like-minded colleagues, new friends, contacts and make new partnerships. These contacts can help you keep up-to-date with new ideas, new research and to help you become part of the study groups or special interest groups that we support. Our events offer all of these opportunities and your BSA membership gives you discounted registration. You can check out our great variety of events here.

Do you want to take charge of your career? The BSA website can help you to do this by offering you online access to the Sociology Vacancies Board on our website. The Vacancies Board is a great way to find relevant job postings and opportunities in your chosen area of research or teaching. This is a service provided by your Association to all sociologists; other Opportunities can be viewed in this section too.

Do you want access to the most recently published research? You have the choice of our Sociology and Work, Employment and Society journals offer this in a hard copy six times year which is posted out to you. Access to both of these journals is available online along with Cultural Sociology and the full archive of all three via the Members Area. Within our benefits, we also offer access to many SAGE online resources including case studies, articles, white papers and books. For more information you can visit the Benefits page on the BSA website. You also receive a printed copy of Network three times a year as a part of your membership privileges. Network is a great way to catch up on what’s happening in your community and the working lives of sociologists.

Memberships will lapse on Wednesday, 1 March so please do renew now either online via the Members' Area, or by calling the Membership team on 0191 383 0839.

Finally, don't forget that putting your membership on your resume can be seen as valuable to employers as it shows that you are connected to your professional association and having an impact in the wider community.

If you would like to discuss your membership please do contact us! We look forward to welcoming you back for 2017!
