The BSA Annual Conference 2012 took place at the University of Leeds with the theme of ‘Sociology in an Age of Austerity’. The conference plenary sessions were: John Brewer (University of Aberdeen) who gave the Presidential Address on From the Public Impact to the Public Value of Sociology; Zygmunt Bauman (Emeritus Professor University of Leeds) spoke on “Liquid Modernity Revisited”; Michael Burawoy (University of California – Berkeley) spoke on “On Occupations”; Stephen Ackroyd (Emeritus Professor, Lancaster University) and Rosemary Batt (Cornell University) spoke on Austerity for some? The Impact of Financialization on Management and Labor. We also celebrated 25 years of publishing the Work, employment and society (WES) journal at the 2012 conference.
